Holy cow! Feb. 2nd, 2009 @ 01:58 pm
Well, it looks like the size of my family just might double this Thursday.

Irony, thy name is wife... Dec. 22nd, 2008 @ 10:02 am
So, ever since Tammy and I have been married there has probably been one thing I do that has gotten under Tammy's skin more than anything, and that is to play Civilization.

Oh, it's not the game itself but my behavior with the game itself. I get engrossed in that game more than ANY other game I have ever played. Fans of the Civ series will easily know the refrain "... but just ONE more turn ..." which generally doesn't just end with that lone turn. I mean, come on, when the Egyptians and Aztecs attack you simply because you wanted the four (FOUR!) cities of the next-door neighbor Incans, you just HAVE to wipe them off the map. I mean, come on! The Aztec are like the worst, smallest Civ in the game and the Egyptians and Malinese have to cross *TWO* other civs just to reach you or the Incans! You can't just get up and stop playing when they do something like that! Well, I digress... When I get into Civ, it can sometimes be hours and it always got under Tammy's skin when my protestations of "just let me finish this up, 15 more minutes I promise..." almost never ended up being 15 minutes. As well, she just always gave me this look when i tried to explain the game to her. You know, the look that says "why does that even sound fun?" I tried telling her it was like a cross between Risk and Sim City (both of which she loves), but once I started going into any more detail than that her eyes would glaze over and I would lose her.

But, back to the point. Last week we ended up getting Civilzation: Revolution on the 360. When I had my first chance to pop it in the console and take a look at it, it was getting kinda late. I wanted to see how they did some of the things to make it work with the console platform, and was really curious. Tammy asked me how I was going to guarantee that is all I would be doing and would get to bed on time? I said because I was going to let her be the one actually playing. We'd just pop in, start a game and see what it was like.

Very beautiful game. She (we) played it for about 15 minutes and then went to bed.

The next day, I'm coming home from work and I ask how her day went. "Oh dangit!" she said with a half-frustrated sound in her voice. "What???" I asked. "I just won by Culture. I was about 20 gold from winning by Economics, but I really just wanted to win by Domination!" With a sparkle in my voice, I asked "Are you playing Civ...?" Sheepishly, she responded with a "Yes..." "How long have you been playing?" "Um, 7 hours?"

At that point I just had to burst out laughing.

Yes, you heard that right. We just found out today that our OB/GYN, someone who we've known for years through our church, is the daughter of the one and only Ron Paul. Whoa!

Consider our minds blown.

» Baby Names?
Okay folks, with twins we have to go back to the drawing board for baby names. We had already pretty much settled (but always subject to change) on a boy and girl name for a single baby. Now we have to come up with a second boy and girl name. So, we started throwing around ideas but I thought, what the heck, let's see what our friends can come up with.

So, IN ALL SERIOUSNESS, what names do you think would go with the following names? Unique can be fine, but nothing really weird, and they need to "match" the other names enough that when said side-by-side they won't seem weird.

Boy: Cameron Morris Taylor
Girl: Emily Ann Taylor

» Wii Fit Acquired
Okay, we've finally got our hands on Wii Fit. Apparently the Wal-Mart in Alvin got a shipment in early this morning of 16 units. Tammy has procured one and brought it safely home. I'm sure we'll be hearing more about it later on her LJ.

So there you go.
